Bremen Pannfisch
Catch of the day, fried potatoes, mustard sauce, side salad
19,90 €

Northern German classic
On the Schlachte, right on the river Weser: catch of the day from the pan, fried potatoes, mustard sauce. At Kangaroo Island since 1999.
Kangaroo Island at Schlachte 30A serves Bremen Pannfisch as a fixture of its menu: the catch of the day pan-fried and served with handmade fried potatoes, creamy mustard sauce and salad – 19,90 €. Kitchen open Mon–Thu 2–10 pm, Fri/Sat 12 pm–midnight, Sun 12–9 pm, terrace directly on the river, menu in English.
Pannfisch comes from the coast. Yesterday’s fish went into the pan with fried potatoes and a punchy mustard sauce – honest, filling, no fuss. Today the dish is on the menu in every Hanseatic city, and in Bremen it belongs to the Schlachte as much as the river itself.
We call ours Bremen Pannfisch and stay close to the original: we take the catch of the day, sear it until the skin has colour, and serve it with handmade fried potatoes, creamy mustard sauce and a small side salad. No gimmicks – produce, craft, timing.
Because the fish changes with the delivery, Pannfisch never tastes exactly the same two days running. That is the point: it is as fresh as the market allows. If you want to know what is in the pan today, ask our team – you will get an honest answer.
Pair it with a Haake Beck draught beer – the local brew – or a glass of Pinot Gris. And when the weather plays along, eat it where it belongs: outside on the terrace on the Weser, watching the boats go by.
Straight from the pan
If you like Pannfisch, you will find the whole Northern German family here: plaice, matjes herring, cod loin with mustard-dill sauce, pike-perch with a potato crust – and fish & chips for 9,90 €.

Pannfisch (“pan fish”) is a Northern German classic: pan-fried fish served with fried potatoes and a creamy mustard sauce. It started as a fishermen’s leftover dish and is now a signature plate of the Hanseatic cities. At Kangaroo Island we use the catch of the day, sear it in the pan and serve it with handmade fried potatoes, mustard sauce and a small side salad.
It changes with the delivery – that is why it is called “catch of the day”. Depending on the day it may be pollock, cod or another firm white fillet. Just ask our team what is in the pan today.
19,90 € including fried potatoes, mustard sauce and side salad (menu as of July 2026). All prices are on our current menu.
