Crispy fried fish with fries and remoulade at Kangaroo Island Bremen

Crispy from the pan

Where do you get good fried fish in Bremen – without driving to the coast?

On the Schlachte: fish & chips for 9,90 €, beer-battered fish bites and a whole pan-fried fish menu, right on the river Weser.

Kangaroo Island at Schlachte 30A serves fried fish three ways: fish & chips for 9,90 € (freshly breaded, fries, remoulade, lemon), beer-battered fish bites from the late night kitchen on Friday and Saturday nights, and a pan-fried fish menu with plaice, pike-perch, cod loin and pollock. Terrace on the river, kitchen open until midnight Fri/Sat, menu in English.

Fried fish here means: breaded fresh, served straight away

Fried fish is the most honest way to eat fish: fillet into the breading, fried hot, lemon on top. What works at every kiosk on the coast, you get here in the middle of Bremen’s city centre – with a view of the river instead of a car park.

Start with our bestseller: fish & chips for 9,90 € with thick-cut fries, homemade remoulade and a wedge of lemon. Breaded fresh, never pre-cooked. If you like it more rustic, come on a Friday or Saturday after 10 pm: the late night kitchen “Nachthafen” serves six beer-battered fish bites for 9,90 € – light, crispy, exactly right when the evening on the Schlachte has run long.

And then there is the actual fried fish menu: the Northern German pan classics. Whole plaice “Finkenwerder style” with bacon and onions, plaice fillet with saffron lobster sauce, pike-perch fillet with a potato crust, North Sea cod loin with mustard-dill sauce – and pollock fillet with potato salad in a small or large portion. All from the pan, all fresh, as the market allows.

Pair it with a Haake Beck draught – Bremen’s local beer – or a glass of Pinot Gris. And if you would rather have fish without the breading, the Bremen Pannfisch is waiting on the same menu.
